Affirmative Prayer
Prayer AngelAffirmative prayer, or spiritual mind treatment, is based upon the belief that we are surrounded by an indwelling Universal Mind that reacts to our felt thoughts by manifesting what we most deeply feel and believe about any particular issue. An affirmative prayer is expressed in positive, affirmative statements that declare the issue as already accomplished. It is not a supplication or request to the Universal Creative Mind; rather it is a clearly stated intention accompanied by a firm belief, deeply felt, that the desired aim is already in the making with the end result assured. The manifestation occurs to the degree that the felt belief is certain.

Practitioners

Practitioners assist others in discovering their highest possibilities

  • By using affirmative prayer (“spiritual mind treatment”)
  • By acting as catalysts as one discovers the truth within oneself
  • By guiding others in understanding and applying universal principles.

Primarily, licensed professional Practitioners work with others in private sessions, and they often serve as teachers and assistants in classes, workshop, and seminars. In addition, Practitioners characteristically lead meditations and interactive readings as a part of the Sangha services. In support of the ministry of the church, Practitioners participate in the Ministry of Prayer by receiving requests and praying—knowing the underlying spiritual qualities seeking to express themselves in the situation of the requestor. Please be aware that a Practitioner of Religious Science is not a psychological counselor, nor is s/he a giver of advice.

Open DoorPractitioners are members of the Ecclesiastical Office of United Centers for Spiritual Living, and, as such, are part of the “healing arm” of the church along with the ministers. They are committed to remembering the spiritual truth within all situations and devoted to the creative power of affirmative prayer. Practitioners are licensed by the United Centers after a minimum of three years of study, followed by written and oral testing. Their licenses are renewed every two years, pending verification that the Practitioner has completed his/her required Continuing Licensing Units and service hours.

Practitioners’ Covenant of Healing:
We, the Practitioners of Sangha, Center for Spiritual Living, hereby pledge our time, energy, and prayer through spiritual mind treatment to the healing of every person who calls on us for assistance. We commit ourselves to regular meditation and prayer as well as inspiring and informative spiritual reading in order that we remain conscious of the presence of God in all we think, say, and do. We maintain an awareness of the spiritual identity of every person and know that the truth of us all is that we are centers of the one universal creative power, presence, intelligence, and givingness that Spirit truly is.

Obtaining the Services of a Practitioner:
You may make an appointment for a private session. Call the church office to set one up. After church services, Practitioners are available without fee for immediate assistance through listening, caring, and prayer. Practitioners who are in service to you in this way may be identified by their purple stole or name badge. If more in-depth or extensive time is desired, please set up an appointment for a private session, which typically lasts about one hour.

What about Fees?
Private sessions are conducted on a fee basis, arranged before the session begins. Each Practitioner establishes his/her own fee schedule, which may range from a love offering donation to $25 to $100 per session. Please call the office at 714-596-0900 for a list of names, pick up a Prayer Request Form with the names and phone numbers listed in the Foyer or Gathering Place, or e-mail any Practitioner who provides an e-mail address.
